JOEY IS ILL

Dear all

Am in London already and am rather worried. Received a phone call from my mom about Joey. He has taken ill and was vomitting blood over the weekend.

Please pray for him and hope that he will get better soon. As we only adopted him last year, we’re not sure about his medical history. We knew that he was badly treated, along with Jesse…

Anyway my vet will be doing a battery of tests on Joey and hopefully he will be able to diagnose what’s wrong with Joey and treat it.

Am feeling miserable and helpless cause I am so far away and will only be back in july….

So would appreciate good thoughts and prayers for Joey from everyone.

Natasha

WE HAVE A NEW KITTEN

hi all

have been neglecting the blog for a while… have a new kitten… we rescued it in the middle of the night on Saturday…

it was smack in the middle of the road and didn’t run away eventhough our very large and noisy Land Rover approached.

so I got down and went to look at it and realised that it couldn’t see cause it’s eyes were glued shut from a severe infection.

so we took her home, cleaned and fed her. took her to the vet bright and early the next morning (thank goodness my vet is open on sundays - hayward animal clinic in Ampang).

we then discovered she also had a bad cold plus a chest infection and was on the brink of getting pneumonia!

so have been looking after her and giving her meds 4 times a day and applying eye ointments etc…

the good news is that she is doing very well. she has started to run and play now, whereas she just slept all the time the first two days we had her.

she should be as right as rain real soon! will post pictures soon…

NEW KEEBLE FOR THE KIDS

Hi all…

Just bought a new bag of Keeble - LAMADERM - for the kids… And it’s a cruelty free product at that too…

Some of you may remember that I was on a drive to use as many cruelty free products as possible some time ago. But one area in which I had real trouble with was with dog keeble… In Malaysia it’s really hard to get cruelty free poducts in general and it’s even harder to get cruelty free products for pets.

I tried a few before like Addiction among others… the kids hated Addiction. And I don’t know if any of you out there are on Addiction, but the keeble tastes really bad!!! And it’s also incredibly expensive…

We’ve tried Lamaderm before but they didn’t quite like although it was more palatable compared to Addiction. Yes I tried it…

And then the supplier of Lamaderm (in my area) went out of business. Though having said that I have not seen Lamaderm anywhere else. (Amber - where do you get your supply of Lamaderm?) So we had to go back to BilJac which the kids love, because the quality and taste of BilJac is very good.

But my decision to look for an alternative was due to the fact that my numerous emails to BilJac - enquiring if they were cruelty free - received no response although I know someone from BilJac had been reading my emails.

Anyway I was really pleased to see that my vet had started stocking Lamaderm again. Apparently he’s getting it from a new supplier. So fingers crossed the supplier will remain in business… And I’m also hoping that it will help with Lucky’s skin condition that seems to flare up every now and then.

Anyway here’s some nutritional facts of Adult Lamaderm for Dogs :

SO WHAT CAN WE EAT?

My friend, Kate, just left me a note on how veal is produced. I had just assumed that veal meant a young cow.

However, I had no idea that veal was farmed in a really cruel manner. Veal is completely different from just being the meat of a young cow.

“In order to produce veal, calves are taken from their mothers at birth and are chained by the neck in crates measuring just two feet wide. They cannot turn around, stretch their limbs, or even lie down comfortably. They are fed a liquid diet deficient in iron for 16 weeks, at which point they are slaughtered. All this to make their flesh pale and sickly. In order to keep the calves alive in these conditions, drugs are needed. Veal is among the most likely meat to contain illegal drug residues which pose a threat to human consumers.” from Animal Protection and Rescue League

Please click here to see how veal is produced. Also see http://www.veganswers.com/ for those of you who might be considering going vegetarian.
